Dave, Chuck And Grahams Audio For Video Project-Sam

This is a piece of coursework for our BSc Audio And Music Technology Degree. For this assignment we, being Graham, Chuck and Dave, were given the animation without any audio.

The task set for us was to create the soundtrack. This involved sound effects and music composition that was put together using Pro Tools a digital audio workstation. For creating the sound effects we search the internet for a range of different samples. We also did some foley recording to capture real sound which we then altered using audio editing software.

Graham was in charge of all the orchestral compositions, which he created using MIDI synths in Pro Tools. These compositions were arranged so that each character had his own theme. For example the main character Sam was played by a string section whereas the pilot had a brass section, which emphasised his bad mood.

Chuck was in charge of miscellaneous sound effects and foley recording. Chuck researched various sound effects websites and gathered a large collection of samples. He then edited these accordingly and placed them into the Pro Tools session. All samples had to be at a set sample rate of 44.1 Khz for the Pro Tools session.

Dave was in charge of vehicle sound effects, Ambient background noise, In flight music, credit music and mixing the three separate session together. Dave again had to research a lot so the sample online and most of them had to be edited to fit in the project.
Once all the pieces were together they were mastered and some automation was added for dynamic effect.

Please comment on our work.

Thanks
Dave, Chuck and Graham
